![]() Di-ku & family We all know him to be hot-tempered and yet there is a side of Ong Chiong Chiong that is tender and caring, too. "Di-ku" (or Uncle No. 2) to most of us, he is only addressed as "Ah-Peh" by two of his nieces from his younger brother. He is married to Rosy Chua who has all these years been his abled "partner in crime" in their thriving garment business. Sundex Corporation started out as a small business in a two-bedroom apartment. There has been ups and downs in their business venture but they have gone a long way from the days when all the sewing machines / gadgets; materials and finished products alike can be found in every nook and corner of the small apartment. Their "Baby Boom" trademark is doing well and every new baby in the family has since then, has had the opportunity to "act" as live models for their company by donning their products. Francis to some of his friends, Di-ku used to have three major passions in his younger years : his wheels, his pets and his ardent support of the tobacco industry. Nowadays, he has also added surfing the net to his list. Rosy or Di-kim started out as working as our grandfather's secretary in his clinic when she first got married but all that was before her underlying business talents were discovered. No. 1 son to Di-ku and Di-kim is Chad Robson Ong. Robson lived up to his reputation as the notorious brat of the family all through his childhood. Memories of him punching the nose of the family maid or of him sitting by the front door muttering obscenities at anyone that passed by are still subjects of amusement in the family to this day. Now a college student, he still has the rebellious streak in him but at 21 he's also quite the charmer to the opposite sex. As his cousins, we have recently developed quite a fondness of seeing his famous characterization of a hairdresser. Simply, to die for. No. 2 son is Carl Raymond Ong, we all fondly refer to him as Mon-mon. An older male cousin has even composed a catchy tune in his honor that goes, "Lemon Ong, Lemon Ong". His obliging, trusting and good-natured ways are his best qualities, apart from inheriting his good looks from his mother. Raymond is also quite the sportsman of the family, he was once eyed to join the school basketball team by the coach but father knows best and so that didn't work out. He is still a basketball aficionado, still throws hoops although he has also recently honed his skills in knocking down tenpins. A personal favorite story of mine about him is how he swallowed this retainer of some sort he had to correct his teeth while laughing as a kid. He innocently expressed relief after it happened thinking that he has gotten rid of it for good but alas, the image of Di-ku and Di-kim digging through Raymond's dung the next day in search of the missing retainer is still very vivid to this day. Being the only girl, the boyish traits of her
two elder brothers have rubbed off on Candice Ranie Ong. More affectionately
known as "Momay" in the family, you can be sure that she will not take
any browbeating from her brothers sitting down. Candice, holds more interest
in tackling the hurdles than learning more about Arithmetic or English
Literature. She bagged quite a few medals not long ago in an inter-school
track & field competition. With her birth in 1982, the family
has so far had a string of nine girls more between two generations for
some time now but hey, who's counting?? In the famous words
of the Spice Girls, "Girl Power!" Yuck, can't believe I said that!

![]() Born Ong Kuan Kuan to a brood of seven which she is second to the last, she is more popularly known in the family as "eng-ah" to the older generation or "si-yi" or "si-ko" to our generation. The two latter ones are pretty straightforward, it's a sign of respect to an elder although we regard her as a contemporary more than anything else. The name "eng-ah" came about due to the delightful (not) sounds she made when she cried as a baby, courtesy of Dr. Piu Ong, her older brother. She was also once known as "kweek" to some of her friends in highschool at ICA but the time came when she went to Taipei to work and she then became "K.K." to her co-workers and business associates. Probably because they were having such a difficult time to pronounce her real name. Si-yi is the first and foremost the artist in the family. She has a Bachelor of Science diploma in Fine Arts, majoring in Advertising, from the College of Holy Spirit in Manila, where she also had a stint in teaching for six years before venturing out to Taiwan. Gone are the days of taking out her paint brushes, nowadays she is moving up the corporate ladder of the world of advertising. She is currently holding the position of Client Service Director of an MNC ad agency based in Shanghai, China. She does have a good sense of humor, has developed
a strong link to our generation perhaps due to having managed to dodge
the road leading to the altar so far. More often than not, she ends
up at the receiving end of our pranks but the good thing is, she lets us
get away with it. One amusing anecdote about our dear aunt is when
a small unknowing creature decided to explore her auditory apparatus one
night, resulting to an ear infection - thanks to her quick reflection of
squashing the poor roach inside with her pinky. She is funniest when
she least intends to be, we all adore her for what she is ~ a loving person
who is always there for us.

![]() Bebe Ong Liu, or more popularly known as Bhea at home or Go-yi to her nieces and nephews is the youngest daughter of the Ong Family. Just like the two siblings born before her, she is considered more as a contemporary than an aunt by us. She is happily married to Jerry Liu, whom we fondly call us "uncle" and is blessed with 3 lovely daughters. Bebe is the pioneer in our family in coming over
to Taipei to work. She made this brave decision 15 years ago after
she graduated BS Medical Technology from CHS. She had some short
stints in well-established hospitals in Taipei, MNCs like Amway and finally
settled with Norwen Brown Taiwan Ltd 9 years ago, where she
and Jerry currently manage.
Her 3 daughters, although have very similar physical traits, have very different personalities. Jiselle, or Aji, is very much like Uncle Jerry in her strive for knowledge and excellence academically. She is relatively more tomboyish and messy compared to her other 2 sisters. Janis, or Ajan, is a 100% demure little lady. She likes wearing pretty dresses and is very malambing to almost all people. When we thought Aji and Ajan were kengkay enough, we knew we were wrong when we saw how Jessamine has grown. She has this funny expressions that will surely make you laugh. She's also a natural born dancer who can dance to almost any tune. To know more about the Liu Family, visit their homepage at www.geocities.com/heartland/park/3880/. |
